2 Basic SearchWatch video

If you type a word you want to search, the engine will provide you information from more than 50 contents at a time. By filtering through the found contents, you will get more accurate information.

Basic Search

  1. Choose the searching range [headword/full text], by clicking the pulldown menu on the left of the search box.
  2. Type the word you want to search in the box.
  3. Click the Search button.

Phrase Search

By checking the box Phrase Search beside the search button, you will be able to search phrases. This will be useful when searching set phrases and idiomatic usages. (Example: ad hoc)

By entering spaces between multiple words, you will be able to AND Search. For example, if you enter "blue village," you will have results which contain the two keywords "village" and "blue."

Suggest Function

Even if you are not completely sure of the word you want to search, by entering the first letters of the word (more than 2) in the search box, a pulldown menu with search suggestions will appear, with a maximum of 10 words which include the letters you have typed in.

Contents Facet - Filtering FunctionWatch video

The facet will classify your search results into contents and categories, to facilitate the finding of the information you need. After searching the word you want to know about, the number of results for each content and category will appear beside it. By clicking the category or content you are interested in, only the information from the content or category selected will appear in the search result list.

When selecting a category/content, a checkmark will appear beside, which means that only the checked category/content is the search target.

When you want to clear the check mark, click again the selected name. You can also select multiple contents and categories at once

You can also filter the media attached in the searched contents to images, audios and maps.

Full Text Search ScopeWatch video

In both Basic Search and Advanced Search, the initial search scope is set to "headword." By setting the search scope to "full text," you will be able to search from the whole texts of dictionaries and articles.

However, "full text" search includes only the contents of Dictionaries, Encyclopedias and series of books. The contents which have full text data in JKBooks are the "Gunsho Ruiju" series, "Toyo Keizai Archives (The magazines published after 1997)", "Jinbutsu Sosho" and "The ORIENTAL ECONOMIST." The other JKBooks can be searched only by title and content information.

TIPSDistinction between Basic Search and Advanced Search

In Basic Search you can easily cross-search multiple contents by only typing a search word. Advanced Search permits a complex searching, such as searching multiple words in different search ranges and conditions. When you are unsure of the word you want to search, using the Boolean searching (AND/OR/NOT) will facilitate your searching.
