Nanboku-cho Ibun

The Nanboku-cho Ibun is a collection of historical materials covering more than 60 years from the collapse of the Kamakura Bakufu (Kamakura Shogunate) in Genko 3 (Shokyo 2, 1333) to the unification of the Nanboku-cho in Meitoku 5 (Genchu 11, 1394). Thus far, the Kyushu (seven volumes), Chugoku-Shikoku (six volumes), Kanto (seven volumes), and Tohoku (two volumes) compilations have been published. With these 22 original volumes as source materials, the “Nanboku-cho Ibun Web Edition” has made it possible to conduct full-text searches of the more than 20,300 historical documents of the Nanboku-cho era.

The special feature of the “Nanboku-cho Ibun Web Edition” is that not only can users search the content but can also browse the type pages of the volumes on the screen. As the type pages can be viewed directly, it is possible to distinguish between paintings and calligraphic works by the original author and revisions in red as well as between marginal notes (glosses) and inserted notes. Furthermore, a link to the "Union Catalogue of Japanese Historical Documents Database" at the Historiographical Institute, The University of Tokyo, is provided.
